On 12 February, a practical seminar titled

“Islamic Finance in Practice: International Experience in Implementing Islamic Banking” was held in Almaty with the participation of an international expert in Islamic finance and Shariah governance - Dr. Abdulbari Mish’al.

The event was organised by the Association of Islamic Finance and Business (AIFB) in collaboration with IMAN Global Shariah Consulting, with the support of partner Qaynar Bulaq (Almaty).

More than 70 representatives from the banking and financial sector, as well as regulatory and educational institutions, took part in the seminar. The programme covered international approaches to the development of Islamic banking, as well as practical models for implementing Islamic windows within the banking system.

The discussion session attracted particular interest, focusing on the following key topics:

  • the role and responsibilities of Shariah boards at the bank and regulatory levels
  • principles of organisational and financial segregation of Islamic windows
  • models of Shariah governance and internal Shariah control

An interactive dialogue with the speaker and the analysis of practical case studies helped participants gain a deeper understanding of the key challenges and specifics of implementing Islamic financial instruments.

The Association of Islamic Finance and Business (AIFB) will continue to implement international educational and expert initiatives aimed at developing the Islamic finance ecosystem in Kazakhstan and the region.
